چکیده

Spring applications require materials that possess a low Young’s modulus and high strength, in addition to having a lower alloying percentage for reduced costs. In this study, a new low-cost ¢-type titanium alloy with a lower alloying percentage than conventional ¢-type alloys was developed for spring applications using [Al]eq and [Mo]eq. The alloy is located in the near-¢ region and its ¢ transus temperature is about 1023K (750°C). This alloy could be cold rolled to a reduction ratio of 86.7% without any intermediate heat treatment. The solutionized alloy exhibits an ultimate strength of 925MPa, a 0.2% proof stress of 910MPa, an elongation of 18%, and a Young’s modulus of 78GPa; the comprehensive characteristics are better than those of conventionally used alloys (Ti-15-3 and ¢C) for spring applications. TIG Surface Alloying of Ti-6Al-4V with Nitrogen and Chromium for Improved Tribological Properties

Due to special properties such as low density, high strength and high corrosion resistance Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been used extensively in various industries, especially in the aerospace aspects. However the major problem of this alloy is its poor tribological properties under relatively high loads. In the present study, in order to improve the tribological properties of mentioned alloy, chromium ...

Design and fabrication of a metastable β-type titanium alloy with ultralow elastic modulus and high strength

Titanium and its alloys have become the most attractive implant materials due to their high corrosion resistance, excellent biocompatibility and relatively low elastic modulus. However, the current Ti materials used for implant applications exhibit much higher Young's modulus (50 ~ 120 GPa) than human bone (~30 GPa). This large mismatch in the elastic modulus between implant and human bone can ...

A low-cost hierarchical nanostructured beta-titanium alloy with high strength

Lightweighting of automobiles by use of novel low-cost, high strength-to-weight ratio structural materials can reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and in turn CO2 emission. Working towards this goal we achieved high strength in a low cost β-titanium alloy, Ti-1Al-8V-5Fe (Ti185), by hierarchical nanostructure consisting of homogenous distribution of micron-scale and nanoscale α-phase precipit...
